ITEN is back!

Following a very tough year on a personal level, I have had to take a step back from producing content for Into The Empty Net, but with a new season on the horizon now feels as good a time as any to step things up again and get back into the swing of covering events at the Rovers.

We are coming off the back of a successful campaign in which Darren Ferguson has rebuilt the squad and achieved the aim of an immediate return to League One following a hapless campaign that led to relegation in 2016. A new playing style was established, cult heroes earned their place in the annals and positivity finally returned to DN4. Yes, the 2016/17 fizzled out and ended on a bit of a sour note with a string of defeats costing us the championship, but this does not diminish the successful season that resulted in automatic promotion back out of the basement league.

Now in mid-June, the wheels are beginning to turn on efforts to build a platform for continued success in 2017/18, with two permanent signings in the door and more on the horizon. Just over a week from now the league fixtures are revealed and we can all start planning those special Saturday afternoons again. With little to tide us over these summer months, it is safe to say that the Rovers faithful have started to go a little stir crazy without their weekly fix. I know I have!

Starting today, with developments through the week, ITEN will be ‘rebooting’ just a bit, with new regular content coming every couple of days looking ahead to the new season, along with a renewed presence on social media. To that end, we will be launching a new Twitter page covering the happenings of this website and the day-to-day events at DRFC, whilst we are also looking into setting up a dedicated Facebook page.

We are also actively looking for guest contributors, so if you wish to write a piece of any description on the Rovers please just get in touch through the website’s comments section or, for now, through my personal Twitter account – @A_Stubbings – or via my account on the Viking Supporters’ Co-operative Fan’s Forum. I would love to bring more fans on board this team to help grow the number of voices covering the club online.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned!
